The Zona Romántica — Old Town, Emiliano Zapata, Playa Los Muertos — is the walkable heart of Puerto Vallarta and the reason many people fall for the city rather than just the beach. Cobblestone streets, the pier at Los Muertos, hundreds of restaurants and the most established LGBTQ+ scene in Mexico, all inside a few blocks.

Be honest about one thing before you book: this is not an all-inclusive district. Most properties here are boutique hotels and condo rentals sold room-only, and the handful of all-inclusive options are smaller, older beachfront hotels or adults-only boutiques with an optional meal plan. If the resort experience — swim-up bars, several restaurants, a kids club — is what you are after, look at Nuevo Vallarta or the Hotel Zone and treat Old Town as a night out.

Why people choose it anyway

Because you never need a taxi. Breakfast, the beach, the Malecón, the art walk, dinner and a late drink are all within fifteen minutes on foot. An all-inclusive plan matters less when there are two hundred restaurants outside the door — which is exactly why the plans available here tend to be flexible ones.

Playa Los Muertos

The city's main beach, and the busiest. Beach clubs rent loungers, vendors walk the sand, and the pier is the landmark you will use to meet people. It is a scene, not a retreat — that is the point.
