All-Inclusive Resorts in Punta de Mita

At the northern tip of Banderas Bay the coast turns west into a headland of beaches, points and surf breaks. Punta de Mita — with the neighbouring beaches of Careyeros, Litibú and Higuera Blanca — is where the region's luxury development went, and where the water is clearest because you are closest to the open Pacific.

Two things to know before booking. First, several of the marquee hotels here are not all-inclusive: this is à la carte luxury territory, and the all-inclusive properties are a specific and smaller set. Second, it is a real drive — forty-five minutes to an hour from the airport — so it works best for stays of a week or more, or when the resort is the whole plan.

The Marietas Islands

The protected archipelago offshore, home to the famous hidden beach and to enormous seabird colonies. Access is capped and permits are limited, so book through an authorised operator well ahead — that limit is what has kept the site alive.

Surf and golf

Consistent, forgiving beach and point breaks make this the bay's surf-school capital. Two championship golf courses sit on the headland, and Litibú has a third a few minutes inland.
